In the era of FMCG, fashion is dead. It refers specifically to the fact that there have been no new designs for many years, and major designers have yet to do anything. So I have always preferred niche independent music and niche independent designers. But in the Maison Margiela Couture Spring 2024, I found the opposite response.
I usually don’t understand the so-called fashion and haute couture brands as an ordinary consumer. I have never quite understood the meaning of haute couture. My greatest understanding of fashion lies in the scene Miranda says to Andrea in The Devil Wears Prada (2006).
“Something funny?
No. No, no. Nothing’s…
You know, it’s just that both those belts look exactly the same to me. You know, I’m still learning about this stuff and. uh…
“This… stuff”?
Oh. Okay. I see.
You think this has nothing to do with you.
You go to your closet…
and you select… I don’t know… that lumpy blue sweater, for instance…
because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously…
to care about what you put on your back.
But what you don’t know is that that sweater is not just blue.
It’s not turquoise. It’s not lapis.
It’s actually cerulean.
And you’re also blithely unaware of the fact…
that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns.
And then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent… wasrt it…
who showed cerulean military jackets?
-I think we need a jacket here. -Mmm.
And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers.
And then it, uh, filtered down through the department stores…
and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner…
and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner…
where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin.
However, that blue represents millions of dollars…
and countless jobs…
and it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice…
that exempts you from the fashion industry…
when, in fact…
you’re wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room… from a pile of stuff.”
In fact, this sky blue has generated millions of dollars in profits, countless jobs, and countless hearts spent on it…
You feel that the clothes you are wearing are your own choice, that your choice is outside the fashion industry, but in fact this is not the case.
The clothes you are wearing are actually chosen for you by the people in this room. , just from this bunch of stuff.”
Only after I actually entered this industry, I did realize that this is the case. First of all, you have to work hard in this industry for many years. Then, we can talk about having our ideas and creating something innovative. And how difficult something like this is cannot be made up by hard work in a day or two.
After watching Margiela’s show, you will be impressed by the master. His genius-like talent and his concepts have been truly implemented and conveyed to the people who came to watch or pay attention to this show. The various living beings in Paris in the 19th century, including prostitutes, thieves, dancers, couples, etc. Everyone is wearing weird porcelain doll makeup. Their faces are cold and numb, like puppet dolls, or the man in a case/suit. The clothes on their bodies are their armor and their only dignity.
If you continue to read the analysis of this show, you can better understand his genius. Whether it is the choice of venue, the reflection of the Seine River, or the model breaking out of the two-dimensional world in the opening scene, it all brings people an excellent audio-visual experience. Just like a good concert, you must go to the scene to experience it. The singer’s singing skills, song arrangement, costumes, venue, lighting, stage design, and sound equipment must all be perfectly harmonious and faultless. What a show is. What a feast of art.
What’s more, to talk, there are 15 technological innovations, the porcelain leather fabric, and the red-soled shoes are highlights and desirable. Only such talents can become geniuses and trendsetters.
We recently attended the Shantou Textile Garment Exhibition. Most of the exhibitors focused on seamless underwear. The reason is that seamless underwear only requires machine production and few labors. But in this fast-trend environment, we still want to stick to slow fashion, hand-made products, and provide customers with products with attitude and warmth. At the same time, we are also trying hard to support everyone who works behind them!
